BUT THEN SHE BECAME DISTRESSED AND STRUGGLED TO BREATH SHE WAS RUSHED TO NICU(NEONATAL INTENSIVE
CARE UNIT)WERE THEY DISCOVERED SHE HAD A SEVERE CONGENTIAL DIAPHRAMATIC HERNIA WHICH HAD PREVENTED
HER LUNGS FROM GROWING AND ALL HER STOMACH ORGANS WHERE UP IN HER CHEST.NOT ONCE DURING THE TIME I
CARRIED EMMA AND THE NUMEROUS SCANS I HAD WAS IT EVER DETECTED THAT SHE HAD ANY PROBLEMS SO IT CAME
AS A DEVASTATING SHOCK TO US THAT OUR BABY GIRL WAS ILL.FOR HER SHORT LIFE EMMA WAS SEDATED AND ON A
VENTILATOR,SHE WAS A VERY BRAVE LITTLE GIRL WHO TRIED SO VERY HARD TO STAY WITH US,BUT SADLY WE ONLY
GOT 27HOURS AND NINETEEN MINUTES TOGETHER,EMMA FELL ASLEEP ETERNALLY AS I HELD HER IN MY ARMS AND
HER DADDY, BIG SISTER AND TWO BIG BROTHERS HER GRANDPARENTS AUNTS AND UNCLES WHERE ALL WITH US AS
THE ANGELS CAME AND GOT HER. ^i^

A rosebud, pink and fair;
Touched it to your dimpled cheeks
And bade it blossom there.
Then with His magic fingers picked
Two morning glories white;
Curled and shaped your little ears,
Soon they were fastened tight.
That crowning bit of golden down
Will soon become your hair;
He gathered pollen from the flowers,
And sprinkled it with care.
For dainty little fingers dear

He used slender daisy frills;

The sea seems to illustrate pain and sorrow so well
It comes in and goes out
For a while it is there, overwhelming, covering everything
Then slowly the tide turns and it withdraws
For a while we can see the beauty of the shells, the seaweed
We can rejoice in the patterns in the sand
We can feel the corrugated ripples under our feet
Alive to what is around, and beyond
But then the tide turns and again it is all washed away, all overwhelmed
We feel like the crashing of the waves on rocks
Raw and out of control
Full of anger and rage
Battered and bruised
Tossed about like flotsam floating wherever we are thrown
There are so many questions. Why now? Why her?
But no answers
Then the sea calms and gently the waves lap the rocks
We are soothed and the inner turmoil is calmed
In time we can learn to move up the beach as the tide comes in
Out of its reach
Not to be overwhelmed
The pain is still there, but in control
We can recognise the pain
Revisiting the sadness
Acknowledging how much the person is missed
We learn to turn away and look to the future
Knowing the person will always be part of us
Always loved and always remembered.
